Must-visit cultural spots in Sant Julià de Lòria

1. Sant Serni de Nagol Church
Dating back to 1055 and located in an exceptional spot with views over the Sant Julià Valley, this church is an outstanding example of Andorran Romanesque heritage and a major landmark in the area's scenery. 

Its silhouette, visible from a distance, integrates naturally into the environment and invites you to explore a space full of history and symbolism. 2. Sant Julià and Sant Germà Church
Throughout its history, this church has undergone several transformations. Its oldest surviving element is the three-storey bell tower of Romanesque origin, an eye-catching feature of the site. 

Inside, it has a nave with altars and a side chapel, from which the old apse from the Baroque period stands out, decorated with coloured stained glass windows to bring light and character to the space. Visiting this church also allows you to discover several devotional items of great heritage value, which reflect the historical and religious importance of the place.

3. Sanctuary of Canòlich
Located at 1,635 metres above sea level, this sanctuary is one of the most important spaces in terms of spirituality and identity in Sant Julià de Lòria.

Every year, on the last Saturday of May, it hosts the Canòlich Day, a popular event that brings together residents and visitors to show devotion to the patron saint of Sant Julià de Lòria, Our Lady of Canòlich.

The day includes a walk up to the sanctuary, as well as religious acts and expressions of folk culture such as the blessing of bread and the sardana dance. See here for more information.

4. Monument dedicated to Joaquim 'Purito' Rodríguez
This piece is located on Coll de la Gallina, at an altitude of 1,910 metres, on one of the most demanding and iconic climbs in the country. The monument pays tribute to retired cyclist Joaquim 'Purito' Rodríguez and his sporting career, which is closely linked to this place.

The location is a landmark for cycling in Andorra and has hosted a number of renowned events, including the Vuelta a España.

5. Casa Comuna
Discover the history of the Casa Comuna, the parish council building, and its close ties to the political and social life of Sant Julià de Lòria. After years in which the parish's official meetings were held at different locations, in 1914 consensus was reached to build a Casa Comuna i Estudi (parish council hall and school), with the help of the community. The project was completed in 1927 with the inauguration of the building as we know it today.

For decades, in addition to hosting communal activity, it was also a teaching space for different educational systems, bearing living testimony to the evolution of the parish.

6. Font dels Cóms
In the past, this fountain had a strategic location, as it was on the road leading to La Seu d'Urgell. The word 'cóm' means drinker in Pyrenean Catalan, so its name points to its main function.

It is worth noting that the fountain was used to supply water to the animals belonging to local people and the merchants who travelled through the area on horses or mules, as well as to townspeople so that they could carry out their household chores.

Currently, it can be visited on Carrer Doctor Palau in Sant Julià de Lòria, as a symbol of the passage of time and the folk heritage of the parish. 

7. Cultural Center
In the heart of Sant Julià de Lòria, the Lauredià Cultural Center has reopened its doors as one of the parish's leading spaces for culture and events. After almost four years of restoration work following a fire in November 2022, the facility has recently resumed its activity with a long-awaited reopening.

Just six kilometers from Andorra la Vella, it offers a quite, privileged location, with easy parking, local shops and all the services of the town centre. This renovated space will once again play host to culture, gatherings and new experiences.

8. Balma de la Margineda along Camí dels Pujols path
This unique archaeological site in Andorra is a key spot to understand the origins of human occupation in the region. 

It is home to remains of prehistoric paintings and constitutes an outstanding example of Andorran and Pyrenean prehistory, as it provides proof of human presence in very ancient times, from 10,000 BCE, and during the early Neolithic, from 5000 to 4000 BCE. On your visit, you'll discover a place full of historical significance.

Located near the Camí de Pujols path – an easy route – it is found near the Pont de la Margineda bridge, bordering the Valira River.  

9. Clio Sculpture
This is a bust of Clio, the goddess of history and heroic poetry in Greek mythology, created in 1989 by the artist from Barcelona Josep Maria Subirachs. 

One of the curious things about the work is the technique used to represent the face, based on a sunken relief, which generates an interesting visual effect. This characteristic makes the figure seem to observe the viewer from any point, adding a perceptual dimension that invites you to stop and contemplate it. You can visit it in Plaça de Calonge in Sant Julià de Lòria.

10. Sant Julià Màgica
Enter a world of legends with Sant Julià Màgica , a family route that combines nature, adventure and fantasy based on the popular legend of the White Lady of Auvinyà. This interactive experience follows the Camí de la Senyoreta (Lady's Path) and invites young and old to discover the mysterious Roc de la Senyoreta (Lady's Rock) through games and activities at 10 stops along the way.

With a distance of 3 kilometers, an elevation gain of 250 metres and an approximate duration of three hours, it is a moderately difficult activity designed for families with children aged 7 and up. A free educational book, available at the Sant Julià de Lòria Tourist Information Office, allows participants to follow the story of the White Lady as they discover the natural surroundings of the parish.
