Summer is synonymous with nature in Andorra

It’s the time of year when visitors from far and wide come to discover the biodiversity and beauty of the Pyrenees on foot, by bicycle, on horseback...

Despite being smaller than other countries, our proportion of green spaces is incomparable, covering 90% of the Principality. Three natural areas are of particular beauty and importance: Sorteny Valley, Comapedrosa Valley and Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, which is the largest, covering more than 40,000 hectares of protected space. It also has the honour of being recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the category of cultural landscapes. All three of these parks are unbeatable places to discover the ecological richness of the Pyrenees, where the relationship between human beings and nature still retains a perfectly sustainable balance.

You can find other great natural attractions in these parks and elsewhere in the country. A prime example are our high-mountain lakes, which at this time of year are at their most stunning following the spring thaw. Their crystal-clear waters, often embedded in deep valleys, transmit purity and peace. The long list includes Tristaina, Juclà, Moreno, Engolasters and many more whose beauty is unrivalled in Europe.

And acting as the backdrop to all our landscapes are the Pyrenees, with their spectacular rocky walls and peaks that remain capped with snow until well into the season. The most outstanding mountain is Comapedrosa, the roof of Andorra, which stands 2,942 metres tall. Along with Comapedrosa, however, there are many other peaks over 2,700 metres, such as Casamanya, Montmalus and Pic del Sirvent. Only the most expert climbers can reach their summits, but less experienced visitors can still enjoy magical panoramas from their slopes.

A host of ways in which to enjoy nature

And in Andorra, nature is much more than a backdrop for snaps in the family holiday album. The living landscapes of the Principality are open to visitors using a variety of means of exploration. For example, on foot, along the dozens of hiking trails suggested on our website. Also by bicycle, with endless road routes for cycling tourists and challenging trails for mountain bikers. Our pony trekking routes are not only incredibly charming, but also environmentally friendly. And for those who prefer comfort, the Gicafers and the Tourist Bus are a couple of the options available.

Enjoy the warm embrace of the Pyrenees in Andorra in summer!
