Christmas in Ordino

This holiday season, the following activities will be taking place in Ordino.

Turning on the lights
The traditional turning on of the lights will take place on 6 December at 6 p.m., in Plaça Major, and represents the start to the Christmas activities in the parish. 

Ossa play
Locals from the town will bring to life the characters from this traditional farce, reenacting the death of the last bear, or ossa, in Ordino. This year, local authorities and cultural groups, such as L’Esbart Valls del Nord and the Art Group of Ordino, have come together to bring excitement to the streets and recover lost traditional celebrations, such as this folkloric tale, part of our people’s immaterial heritage and collective memory. Performance on Sunday 9 December. 

Christmas Village, Fira de Nadal
Plaça Major, L’Era d’Ordino and the streets of the Old Quarter will home to the Nordic Christmas Village, from 6 to 9 December. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can enjoy a range of activities for the young and old alike: From a selection of traditional children’s games to stalls selling crafts and gifts, along with musical performances, Christmas carols and craft workshops. 

The Christmas Log (Cagatió) and Santa comes to town
Christmas Eve (Saturday ,24 December) morning, children will gather in Plaça Major for the traditional Christmas Log (Cagatió) celebrations. In the afternoon, Santa will drop by to collect letters from all of the children there. Cake and chocolate will offered to everyone attending. 

Midnight mass
At midnight on Christmas Eve, the traditional mass can be heard at the Church of Sant Corneli i Sant Cebrià, with cake, chocolate and mulled wine available for everyone after the service.
