Escaldes-Engordany Jazz Festival
The Escaldes-Engordany Jazz Festival will once again fill the parish with vibrant rhythms from 2 to 9 July. This 42nd edition stands out for a programme that embraces both tradition and experimentation within the world of jazz. The festival will combine concerts by major international artists, free street performances and late-night jam sessions that will fill Escaldes-Engordany with atmosphere and live music.
The concerts at the Prat del Roure Hall will open with Nils Landgren, the charismatic Swedish trombonist and singer considered one of the most beloved figures in European jazz. He will be followed by Joshua Redman Quartet, internationally renowned for its fluidity, and Paquito D’Rivera & Anat Cohen, internationally recognised for their career and virtuosity on the saxophone and clarinet. Sixun, the legendary jazz fusion band renowned for its powerful live performances, will also take the stage with a new album release. The fifth evening will feature Lizz Wright, the acclaimed American vocalist and composer who blends gospel, soul, jazz and folk in a style that transcends genres.
The festival also includes a wide range of free street concerts featuring groups such as Txema Riera Organ Trio, Bernardo Parrilla Quartet, Ton Felices Quartet and Émile Londonien.
The late-night jam sessions will offer the opportunity to experience jazz in its most spontaneous and authentic form. These sessions will be led by Kic Barroc 4et, with Àlex Murga on vocals, Brady Lynch on double bass and Kike Pérez on drums, who will invite the participating Jazz al carrer groups to join them on stage.
There will also be unique performances such as Porgy & Bess Pirinenca, a 100% Andorran project led by sopranos Maria Soler and Jonaina Salvadó, and Pol Omedes & Strings, offering an elegant fusion of post-bop jazz and chamber music. In addition, Maria Schneider, one of the leading voices in contemporary jazz and winner of several Grammy Awards, will perform with the Clasijazz Big Band in a must-see concert for lovers of orchestral jazz.
