The l’Illa Hut (alt. 2,480 metres) is built in stone and is at la Gargantillar, just below the l'Illa lake in the parish of Encamp.
It has a capacity for up to 60 people. The Illa Hut was opened in 1981, is large and very spacious. It has 2 rooms with bunks without mattress, fireplace, table for cooking and water alongside. You can get there by car to Engolasters and from here climb on foot to the Coll Jovell following the Madriu Valley. The walk is approximately 4 ½ hours with a climb of 1,290 metres.
The hut is not guarded and is open all year, but it is usually maintained in the summer months (cleaning, firewood, first aid kits...). There is no mobile phone signal and the route to the hut is difficult.
Building work on the Illa guarded mountain hut in the Madriu Perafita-Claror valley
The building work on the Illa guarded mountain hut in the Madriu–Perafita-Claror valley started at the beginning of June. After 29 June, the work will be extended to the free area, which will limit the hut’s current capacity. The old free refuge will be available with 15-20 places for trekkers but for safety reasons stays in this refuge may also be restricted during the day.
