In Encamp, the carnival is one of the most festive times of the year. Satire and fun fill the streets for a fun-filled festival.
This hiking route will take us past several lakes that form the Circ de Pessons to the mountain pass of the same name.
We will leave our car at the Cubil car park in Grandvalira-Grau Roig, taking the forest track westwards and reaching the Estany Primer, where we find the Llacs dels Pesson mountain hut restaurant. From this point we will follow the GRP southwards, leaving the lake to our right. When the paths cross further on, we take the GR7 (white and red lines) which carries on around the south side of the Estany Primer to reach Estany Rodó, where we have our first view of all of the lakes together.
After a gentle climb we come to Meligar Lake and carry on over a series of granite screes to les Fonts Lake. From here on, the path climbs straighter and we might hear the characteristic screeching of the marmots. We will pass the last lake, which is called Cap dels Pessons and after which the path zigzags up to the Pessons mountain pass, offering us a fantastic view of all of the lakes.
The route starts at the Grandvalira ski resort in Grau Roig sector, in el Cubil car park, in the parish of Encamp (42° 31' 54",01° 41' 51").
For your safety, we recommend you do the routes at altitudes of over 1700 metres between the end of June and the end of September.
You will find further details of this and other routes in the Hiking guide Trails of Andorra.
