Estevet’s Friends” is one of the routes that forms part of the Macarulla Little Magical Trails initiative, and is located on the Rec de l’Obac trail in Andorra la Vella. The route makes its way into the Obac forest and enables visitors to enjoy a view of the capital city while surrounded by nature.

It also introduces youngsters to hiking through a variety of games and activities, with the aim of discovering the habitat of the Principality’s most common insects. On this occasion, families are invited to accompany Estevet and discover the secrets his insect friends are hiding.

Estevet is a little boy who lives near the city of Andorra la Vella. One day, he decided to go for a walk in the forest, where he discovered that little things sometimes give rise to very big things... and that here, nothing is what it seems! During his walk, he passed through a magic portal that transported him to the forest of insects and revealed their best-kept secret: that his insect friends have... superpowers!

The route is designed to enable children and families to have fun while learning about Andorra’s best-known insect species, including their habitat, their diet, how they move around, and their life cycle. You can also use the route guide to help with the games and activities.

The route’s starting point is at the Rec de l’Obac, which can be accessed from the Carretera de l’Obac next to the roundabout at km 0. Once you are on the cobblestone path, the trail leads up to the start of the circular route. The route is simple and runs for a little less than two kilometres through the forest on the outskirts of the capital city. There are no difficulties to overcome, except for the occasional gentle slope.

At the end of the route there is a walking area along the length of the Rec de l’Obac, where you can enjoy a stroll and pause to contemplate the views over the city before bringing your excursion to an end. The route’s proximity to the city centre makes it easy to complement this activity by exploring other tourist and cultural attractions in the capital.

After the excursion, you can go to the Visitandorra website and download a certificate accrediting the boys and girls who finish the route as honorary “Macarullas”.

In the tourist information offices you can purchase booklets (€1) that will help you to explore “Estevet’s Friends” and other routes as a family. One additional feature of the Macarulla Little Magical Trails is that the play equipment and “hidden” surprises have been designed and created by local artists and artisans using high-quality materials that respect the natural environment, meaning they integrate perfectly into the landscape.

The Macarulla routes follow mountain trails, so you always need to be equipped with appropriate footwear and clothing and take the necessary precautions, especially for the safety of the youngest members of the family.
