GRP-run STAGE 05

Useful information

  • Difficulty level: Difficult
  • Elevation gain: +1.659 m / -2.323 m
  • Distance: 29,96 km
  • Duration: More than 6 Hours
  • Stages: 1
  • Route type: Trail Running

Starting at the car park at the entrance to the Les Valls del Comapedrosa Communal Natural Park in Soldeu, and finishing at the Sant Julià de Lòria tourist office, this will be a long route, with a very pleasant and beautiful first section up to Bony de la Pica, and a steep downhill slope from there on loose terrain, with short sections equipped with chains that are not suitable for people with vertigo. We totally advise against doing it without a very favorable weather forecast because with fog or heavy rainfall, this last part especially could become a very serious problem.

The route has markings that will guide you at all times, yellow dots corresponding to communal paths (CC), red and white GR markings, red and yellow GRP markings, and bike park signage when crossing its area (it is best not to use headphones in this area, you have to be attentive to the bikes that can go down faster than you can imagine).

For this stage we recommend that you bring enough water, as you won't find much water on the way. Water is only found on the first climb to the shelter, and from here you will have to carry what you have taken on. Keep in mind that even if you leave early, in summer you may encounter high temperatures in the last few kms of the stage.

From the information booth, head towards the back of the car park to climb up the ski slope until you find the Camí de les Carboneres and the signs to the Comapedrosa Shelter. You will immediately find the Pollós River, then the confluence with the Comapedrosa River. Continue up until you reach the shelter. The landscapes in this area are truly spectacular. You will continue to climb and behind you you will find the shelter and now also the Estany de les Truites on your right. Continue up with your back to Comapedrosa until you reach Port Negre de Pallars. At this point, it is worth stopping to enjoy the views. Now you will begin to descend, flank the Alt de la Capa, take a stretch of road and reach the Coll de la Botella and then continue towards the Collada de Montaner (bike park territory, watch out for bikes). Follow the signs, once again ascending towards Pic d'Enclar, to Bony de la Pica, and once you have reached the top, the long and very technical descent to Aixàs will begin. The first section is a dangerous combination of vertical sections of loose terrain and exposed sections equipped with chains. If you complete this section calmly and sensibly, it won't be a problem. From here the descent will be a combination of sections of loose terrain and sections for running at your own pace. When you arrive at the town of Aixàs, descend a little further and climb Coll Jovell to go down directly to La Margineda. The last few kilometres will take you between cobblestone roads and trails to Aixovall, where you will inevitably continue on asphalt parallel to the Valira River until you reach Sant Julià de Lòria and its tourist office, the end of the stage and the end of the challenge if you have completed the stages in sequential order.
