(+376) 875 700Andorra, Spain and France are launching a transnational candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage status. Under the heading 'The material testimonies of the construction of the State of the Pyrenees: The Co-Principality of Andorra', the project highlights the permanence of unique institutions, from the Middle Ages to the present day, through a dozen monuments distributed throughout the country’s geography, La Seu d’Urgell (Alt Urgell, Spain) and Foix (Ariège, France).
Andorra is the only mountain valley territory in Europe that has survived from the Middle Ages to the present day preserving its territory and distinctive institutional features, such as the co-principality, which is enshrined in the Constitution of 1993.
A visit to the twelve monuments that make up the transnational series tells a unique story, the exceptional history of the institutional triangle - two co-principalities and the Andorran communities - that has existed in the area in peace and neutrality for 750 years.
