GRP-run STAGE 04

Useful information

  • Difficulty level: Difficult
  • Elevation gain: +1.286 m / -1.311 m
  • Distance: 19 km
  • Duration: More than 6 Hours
  • Stages: 1
  • Route type: Trail Running

Starting in the village of El Serrat and arriving in Soldeu, you will have to pay attention to the GPS for this route since in some sections the route markings are difficult to follow. We advise against doing it unless there is a very favourable weather forecast, because fog or heavy rainfall could cause serious problems. The route has markings that will guide you, yellow dots corresponding to communal paths (CC), red and white GR markings, and in some sections, red and yellow GRP markings.

For this stage we recommend that you bring enough water, as you won't find much water on the way. Water is only found on the first climb to the shelter, and from here you will have to carry what you have taken on. Keep in mind that even if you leave early, in summer you may encounter high temperatures in the last few kms of the stage.

In addition to the safety equipment that is essential on high-mountain routes, we recommend that you bring a mini water purifier and water purification tablets to safely fill your hydration bag. You will come across streams of water regularly along the route, but beware of droughts.

Leave El Serrat and go down the road until, as you leave the village, you take a left turn that will take you past the hermitage of Sant Pere del Serrat. Continue along a path towards Llorts, where you will reach the road and follow the path identified as Riberamunt and Ruta del Ferro. In Llorts you will cross the Tristaina/Valira Nord river bridge and go up the town's main street. Here begins the long ascent parallel to the Angonella River, which will accompany you to the Angonella shelter. You will continue to gain height with views over the Angonella lakes. You cross an area of boulders,  and you will reach the peak of the stage, the Pic del Clot de Cavall at 2586 metres with excellent panoramic views. From here, take the ridge on the line that separates the parishes of Ordino and La Massana and then a good descent will take you to the Les Fonts shelter. From this point on, you will have to pay close attention to the GPS in order to follow the path, as it goes through open meadows and rocks that can easily disorient you. Descend towards Pla de l'Estany flanking the Bony del Covil d'Erts with spectacular views of the Comapedrosa massif and its valley. You continue your way down along a path, then along a track, until you reach the car park at the northern mouth of the tunnel. Go up the parallel path that goes above the tunnel and go down the ski slopes until you reach the large car park where the Valls del Comapedrosa Communal Natural Park information booth is located.
