LEARNING THROUGH CULTURE

The wide range of museums includes four visitor centres where you can learn about Andorra’s rural environment as well as part of its past. You’ll also learn about the iron-working processes that were practised in the Pyrenees, the meaning of some of the icons that form part of our 12th century murals, and how our natural landscapes were formed.

  • Farga Rossell is a real example of a 19th century Catalan forge, which retains its structure and allows you to see exactly how the mineral was transformed into iron ingots.
  • The Casa de la Muntanya (mountain house) offers you an interactive way to explore the mountain: in the Discovery Zone you’ll find a variety of tactile elements plus a virtual reality area with screenings where you can experience the mountain and all of its natural elements.
  • The mola (mill) and serradora (sawmill) of Cal Pal date back to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, and have been converted into visitor centres where you can see a water-powered saw cutting wood at the sawmill and observe wheat being transformed into flour at the mill.
  • Lastly, at Portal de la Vall (valley gateway) you’ll find all the information you need on the Vall del Madriu, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2004.
