Located in the heart of Ordino, it’s the only manor house in Andorra that has remained intact to date.

Between 1600 and 1900, Casa Areny in Ordino was one of the most important houses in Andorra. The most well-known figure of this family saga – an illustrious figure in our history – is Don Guillem d’Areny-Plandolit, Baron of Senaller i Gramenet, general syndic of the valleys of Andorra and prime mover behind the New Reform of 1866. Family alliances, livestock farming and the iron industry – one of the most important in the 18th century – together with mining and the forges, as well as international relations, are largely the reasons behind the importance and relevance of this family.

Their rise through society is reflected in the house – a building that dates back to the 17th century – which has little in common with what the building looks like today. This is due to the remodelling projects carried out at the end of the 19th century, and which made it the museum space we know today in the 20th century.

The tour through the different rooms of the house lets visitors discover a large number of unique and exclusive items belonging to the family – the only one with a noble title in the Principality – at a time when luxuries and comforts were not found in Andorra. The gardens and what is now the National Auditorium of Andorra, located next door, are also part of the heritage complex.

El somni de Don Guillem (‘Don Guillem’s dream’)
There’s no-one better suited to explain the vicissitudes of his life than Don Guillem himself. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, this is what the “El Somni de Don Guillem” experience hopes to deliver. It’s the latest addition to the tour of the museum. Discover his exciting life with this mise en scène that combines holograms and physical objects which – installed at the top of the house – take you on a journey through time.

Casa d’Areny-Plandolit is part of the Hàbitat Rural d’Andorra itinerary.
