El Tarter: Much more than skiing in Andorra

Ort und Kontakt

Skiing in Andorra is a wonder! The Pyrenean country has amazing ski resorts and slopes that would get anyone’s heart racing. The El Tarter sector in particular is one of the main attractions for international travellers. It has an innovative snowpark with one of the longest lines of modules in Europe as well as Àliga, the FIS downhill track that hosted the 2016 World Cup.

Where is El Tarter?

Everything is impressive at this spot in the Grandvalira ski area, the largest in the Pyrenees. Did you know it has 210 kilometres of slip-sliding adventures to offer? Fun is guaranteed on its blankets of snow.

The town, meanwhile, is 1,700 metres above sea level, or 880 metres below the summit of the ski area. It is a charming village with 700 residents working in tourism and to provide a wide variety of services. These include supermarkets, specialised sport stores and delicious restaurants where you can recharge your batteries before and after practising your favourite sport. Plus, access to the slopes is very convenient from the town, with a cable car and lifts to take you up.

Skiing for the whole family

Few places offer so much for family skiing. With a total of 26 slopes for all levels —3 greens, 12 blues, 8 reds and 3 blacks—, you’ll always find a different descent, at your level, to measure yourself up against. There are also stimulating schools and learning centres for beginners; if that’s you, you’ll be able to practise at your own speed and build up your skills.

As for kids, there’s a children’s school, a crèche and a snow garden. Bababoom Circus, the colourful circuit for kids under 12, is the best way to spark their passion for this sport. You can accompany them as they go through or leave them to be perfectly looked after by the monitors.

Test yourself at the snowpark

Are you looking for adrenaline and new challenges in the snow? Visit this circuit that has been specifically designed to measure your determination, one of the most popular and prominent in Europe. The best part? It is inspiring for all kinds of freestylers, whatever their level.

It spans 1,400 metres in length and includes 20 extreme jumps. Each is complicated in its own way, making them quite addictive. It’s a great way to refine your technique and exponentially improve your skills! Who knows, maybe you’ll end up competing in the Total Fight Masters championship hosted there every year.

Entertainment guaranteed

You’ll love the fantastic vibes at El Tarter. Not only is it a great place for families, but this unforgettable Pyrenees enclave is also a popular gathering spot for young people, couples, groups of friends and the stylish crowd.

There are many options for enjoying a good meal on and around the slopes. You’ll find highly recommended restaurants, especially if you like Italian food, char-grilled meats, gourmet appetizers, perfectly cooked fish and rice dishes.

In the early evening when the frenetic hours of sport wind down, L'Abarset is the quintessential meet-up. This terrace has a stage where it frequently hosts live music and fun concerts. Its parties attract all different audiences, for big thrills and the opportunity to meet interesting people.

At the foot of the slopes and in the villages —for instance, in nearby Canillo—, the entertainment continues with an ambience open to all tastes.

El Tarter is, ultimately, a privileged destination to feel the white snow of Andorra in all its essence. If you experience it, you’ll want to come back for more. See for yourself on your next trip!
