Situated in the parish of Escaldes-Engordany, this is one of the most important bridges in the history of Andorra, as it was here that the 1278 and 1288 agreements were signed that led to the creation of the Co-Principality between the Count of Foix and the Bishop of Urgell.
This 13th-century construction is found on the old road that linked Andorra la Vella with the villages of Engordany and Escaldes. It is made from a variety of stones, arranged irregularly, although the keystones are made of pumice stone. The upper part is flat and has a small stone parapet that runs along the entire length of the bridge. Years later, two iron railings were added for safety, as it is also one of the highest bridges in the country. It features a single semicircular arch.
The Pont dels Escalls bridge dates back to medieval times and crosses the river Valira del Nord, just before its confluence with the river Valira d’Orient.
This bridge belongs to Andorra’s cultural heritage.
