Dona Negra Canta is a musical project that reclaims the central role of African-American women in the creation and dissemination of blues, jazz, rhythm and blues and soul during the first half of the 20th century.

With a journey through songs by pioneering artists such as Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Sister Rosetta Thorpe, LaVern Baker and Nina Simone, the show pays tribute to strong, empowered and fighting women who stood up to an adverse and discriminatory society.
