Images to Touch

09 November - 28 January

The Tobacco Museum in Sant Julià de Lòria presents “Images to Touch”, an exhibition featuring 18 portraits by the photographer Juan Torre that can be visited until 28 January 2018.

“Images to Touch” is an exhibition that transforms photography into a tactile experience, thereby breaking down the barriers that define it as a purely visual art.

The concept is the brainchild of Juan Torre, a professional photographer whose vision was permanently impaired as the result of an illness.  By developing a new printing technique that produces the images in relief, Torre was able to realise his dream of enabling blind and visually impaired people to experience the world of the photographic image. The prints are given a three-millimetre relief surface, which both intensifies the visual quality of the photographs and gives them a new, tactile dimension.

The 18 images on display comprise a series of portraits of artists such as Miguel Ríos, Luz Casal, Paco de Lucía and Luís Eduardo Aute.

Through this exhibition, the Tobacco Museum is opening its doors to accessible art and raising awareness of functional diversity among the general public, while enabling blind visitors to experience the same sensations as those who are sighted.

The exhibition is open until 28 January 2018. Entry is free of charge.
