Maybe you've never heard of the Tamarros before, maybe you have. Whether you've heard of them or not, now you have the chance to discover them and give them a helping hand.

These mischievous creatures, half legend and half popular imagination, live in their own peculiar world. All we know is that in Andorra there are at least seven of them. They are very difficult to see because, as well as moving very, very quickly, they also know how to do it without being noticeable at all. On top of all of these difficulties, they only come out of their world when we need them.

There is one very important thing you need to know about the Tamarros, which is that they protect the nature and the forests of Andorra.

It turns out that each of the seven that have been identified after years of arduous research is entrusted with the protection of the natural environment of one of Andorra's parishes. Dino protects the parish of Ordino, Massa protects La Massana, Nilo protects Canillo, Enko protects Encamp, Andy protects Andorra la Vella, Caldes protects Escaldes-Engordany, and Lau protects Sant Julià de Lòria. In order to carry out their duties, they have a magic portal, hidden in the very forests they protect. By now you must be asking yourselves, who or what are they protecting us from?

Their sworn enemy is Dirt, an evil troll who does everything in her power to damage and destroy Andorra's precious mountains, lakes and forests. Nothing, neither plant nor animal, can escape her voracity. To make matters worse, Dirt never rests. Whatever the day, even on Sundays, she tries to soil and spoil the natural environment with whatever she can find: cans, plastic, paper; any kind of rubbish you can imagine! To give you an idea, after one of Dirt's attacks, the seven Tamarros of Andorra spent more than two days collecting everything up so that the meadows in bloom could once again be clean and no animals would get tangled up in a piece of plastic or cut by a can or a piece of glass.

It's a good job we have the Tamarros!

But every now and again, they need our help. To make sure that the portals they use to access our forests work, we need some children to place a little round stone by them. If there are no stones, the portals won't open and the Tamarros won't be able to get into our world to help us.

If you’d like to give us a hand, finding the portals is really easy because each one is shaped like a Tamarro. If you do find them, you’ll get a reward too!

Before you start looking for them, go to one of the tourist information offices in our network, where they’ll give you a Tamarro guide/passport. As you find them, you can mark them with the corresponding symbol. When you’ve found all seven Tamarros, take your book/passport to the nearest tourist information office and you’ll get a reward.

This route can be done all year round, weather and soil conditions permitting. Likewise, it’s also advisable to go there with the right equipment (bring warm clothes and snow boots or snowshoes in winter and outdoor footwear in summer).

You'll find all the information you need to find the Tamarros at the tourist information offices in Andorra.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, there are many other activities available in our country to do as a family. Use the link to discover all the options of things to do in Andorra. There’s something for everybody!
