  • Duration: More than 6 Hours
  • Stages: 1
  • Route type: Trail Running

Setting off from the Sant Julià de Lòria Tourist Information Office and arriving at the Escaldes-Engordany Tourist Information Office, this is a very demanding route. We advise against doing it unless there is a very favourable weather forecast, because fog or heavy rainfall could cause serious problems. Keep in mind that the terrain in many sections is complicated and, although it can be followed easily with GPS, with poor visibility it will be very slow going. The entire route takes you along marked paths, either with the yellow dot of the communal paths or the red and white GR marks, but for the most part you follow the red and yellow GRP ones, especially in the highest part of the route.

In addition to the safety equipment that is essential on high-mountain routes, we recommend that you bring a mini water purifier and water purification tablets to safely fill your hydration bag. You'll find non-potable water in many places in the last third of the route, and the rest of the path is very dry.

Set off through the streets of Sant Julià towards Andorra la Vella parallel to the main road and turn left towards Aixovall. After passing the first buildings on the left you'll find the Os de Civís River, and straight afterwards the bridge that will take you to the trail. A steep climb through the forest and then an area with slides and views of Aixirivall, on the other side of the valley, will take you to Coll de Jou, where it's worth making a first stop to see everything you'll have to climb once you've made your way back down to the road. You'll cross the road several times during your descent and, once at the bottom, you continue down the left side of the road. Soon you'll find the entrance in the form of cobblestone stairs that mark the start of the Camí d'Auvinyà. From here we recommend that you  take it easy, since the climb will be 15 km with 1,700 metres of elevation gain, practically without a break. You'll pass through Auvinyà, a charming little village, and through Juberri, where alpine forest and steep climbs await, a section with great views. If you look closely enough, you'll even see La Seu airport. This will take you to Naturland 2000, where you may find the bar open. Continue on the track and climb through open terrain and panoramic views until you reach Pic Negre de Claror, the peak of the stage standing at 2,642 metres. You descend laterally, arriving at the Claror Mountain Shelter, a good option to rest for a while, or perhaps you should do so shortly afterwards at the beautiful Estany de la Nou. You'll soon reach the Perafita Mountain Shelter, where you'll face the final climb of the stage, but only a short one this time. Now 'all' that's left is to descend through the beautiful Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, passing several buildings (Estall Serrer, Farga del Madriu, the Fontverd Shelter, Borda Estall, Ràmio, Entremesaigües) and finally continuing along the Camí de la Muntanya, which will leave you at the foot of the road, which you need to cross with great caution. A little further down you'll find the cobblestone Camí de la Canaleta, which leaves you practically in the Plaza de Santa Anna, the end of the stage, right in front of the Tourist Information Office.
