Angela Gheorghiu, the most glamorous and gifted opera singer of our time (according to The New York Sun), is the star set to open the third edition of ClàssicAnd. The Romanian soprano, one of the most sought-after figures in today's opera scene, will perform a selection of arias and excerpts from her extensive repertoire, accompanied by the prestigious pianist, conductor and baritone Alexandru Petrovici, in a free concert at the National Auditorium of Andorra in Ordino.

Gheorghiu made her international debut in 1992 at the Royal Opera House in London playing Mimì in La bohème; that same year she took the role of Adina in L'elisir d'amore at the Vienna State Opera. And again in 1993 at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, also playing the role of Mimì. Her magnificent voice together with an enchanting stage presence have made her a superstar on the opera stage internationally. Since then she has sung in leading opera houses and prestigious concert halls around the world.
Her repertoire includes, besides the aforementioned roles in La bohème and L'elisir d'amore, Violetta in La traviata, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Nedda in Pagliacci, Amelia in Simon Boccanegra, Tosca in Tosca, Magda in La rondine, Marguerite in Faust, Micaela in Carmen, Liù in Turandot, Charlotte in Werther, and the title role in Adriana Lecouvreur.
Gheorghiu, who has recorded much of her repertoire for EMI Classics/Warner Classics and Decca, has received a number of international awards and artistic honours, such as La Médaille Vermeille de la Ville de Paris, the Chevalier and Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres awards, the Nihil Sine Deo decoration from King Michael I of Romania, the European Cultural Award for music, the Victoire d'Honneur award, as well as several Gramophone awards, and has been twice honoured as Female Artist of the Year at the Classical BRIT Awards.
