The “Quela the witch's potion” route is on the Les Fonts Trail in Engolasters, in Escaldes-Engordany parish. The route introduces kids to hiking through different games and activities, under the theme of the fantastic world of witches.

Quela, the last known witch in Escaldes-Engordany, is the star of this adventure in which a hunt for the happiness potion becomes a fun challenge for anyone wanting to become a witch or wizard.

The trail starts at the beginning of the Les Fonts trail, on the Engolasters road not far from the lake. As the area gets busy in summer and parking spaces are limited, we recommend using the free EE BUS Línea Verde (Green Line) service, which picks up passengers at the assigned stops and will drop them off close to the route. You can find the timetables at this link. You can also download the App to check the vehicle's location in real time.

The route is designed for kids and families to have fun learning about the beliefs and legends surrounding witches in Andorra, as well as some medicinal uses of some of the plants native to that area. A guide will be there to play and help with the activities.

At the end of the trail is a picnic area where you can take a break before heading home. Nearby is Caldes, one of Andorra’s Tamarros, and just a few metres from there you can enjoy panoramic views from the Les Fonts viewpoint.

After finishing the route, you can download the diploma accrediting boys and girls as “Macarullas” from the Visitandorra website.

Macarulla's Poció de la Bruixa Quela is one of the more challenging routes, which means it is suitable for children who are already used to walking in the mountains.

At the tourist offices you’ll find pamphlets (1€) for exploring “Quela the witch’s potion” and other trails as a family. An added value of the Macarulla little magical trails is that the play equipment and “hidden” surprises are conceived and designed by local artists and artisans using high-quality materials that are environmentally friendly, so they perfectly integrate into the landscape.

The Macarulla routes run along mountain paths, so you should always wear suitable footwear and clothing, as well as taking the necessary precautions, especially for children's safety.
