The mountain pine is the main figure of these forests and grows to a considerable size, but the alpen rose undergrowth is also present throughout. The herbaceous layer is dominated by the yellow bedstraw and the thistle, which give the surroundings touches of colour. This area is characterised by the presence of the wood grouse, the black woodpecker and the Pyrenean owl.
