Water sports in Andorra

Andorra has amazing facilities for swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo. They’ll let you combine your training at altitude with other indoor and outdoor sports disciplines in the country. It will test the limits of the best elite swimmers.

Water polo

Playing water polo requires great strength and intensity. It’s a high impact team sport in which you need a lot of strategic and physical skills. It’s considered one of the most well-rounded physical activities in terms of cardio, strength and endurance training. Sports training in pools at high altitude lets athletes improve cardiorespiratory endurance and stimulate blood circulation.

There are different swimming pools perfect for playing high performance water polo, where you’ll find the necessary equipment for your training sessions, as well as adapted gyms where you can complement your training. In addition, they offer exclusive support and services to make your water polo pre-season training a success.

You can play water polo at Encamp Sports Complex, Pas de la Casa Sports Complex, Sant Julià de Lória Sports Club, Serradells Sports Centre and Palau de Gel.

Competitive swimming

Andorra is the perfect destination for professional swimmers aiming to break their personal records. Training at altitude will let you improve your performance and your resistance to the water in order to swim even faster.

You have three Olympic pools approved for high performance training in swimming. Encamp Sports Complex, Pas de la Casa Sports Complex, Sant Julià de Lória Sports Club, Serradells Sports Centre and Palau de Gel offer you 50 to 25-metre pools with water temperatures between 26–28ºC (79–82ºF), ideal for swimming at any time of the year.

In addition, the centres also offer other services such as personalised training for those looking to improve their technique and performance in the water.

Artistic swimming

Synchronised swimming is a water sport in which dance, gymnastics and swimming come together as a beautiful choreography accompanied by music. The difficulty of synchronised swimming lies in the elite athlete’s flexibility, physical endurance, precision in their movements and lung capacity in holding their breath underwater.

Andorra offers the perfect conditions to increase the performance and lung capacity of swimmers thanks to the location of its Olympic swimming pools, which are between 900 m and 2,000 m above sea level. The difference in elevation makes it possible to train at different altitudes, which will help artistic swimmers to adapt to different performance levels.

Serradells Sports Centre has a 50-metre-long, 3-metre-deep Olympic-size swimming pool, which is perfect for synchronised swimming. In addition, they offer exclusive support and services to make your synchronised swimming pre-season training a success. The centre is the headquarters of the Serradells Synchronised Swimming Club, which promotes synchronised swimming among the country’s youth, at both the recreational and competitive levels.
