Second annual stars festival
La Massana, a Starlight Tourist Destination and Reserve, is playing host to the II Andorra Comapedrosa Astronomy Festival from 28-29 June.
Observing the stars, planets and constellations that can be seen in the night sky is at the core of all the event’s activities, which will take place at different locations around the parish.
Friday, June 28
- Children’s Nocturnal Observation· Arinsal station car park (Roca de la Sabina lookout point). Time slot 1: 10:30 - 11:15 p.m. / Time slot 2: 11:15 p.m. -12:00 a.m.
- Astrophotography outing · The Milky Way at Coll de la Botella · 10:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. In collaboration with AFVAN.
Saturday, June 29
- Conference cycle · Les Fontetes Theatre
- 11:30 a.m. The Beauty of the Universe under a Dark Sky (Catalan) – Aleix Roig.
- 12:00 p.m. The Sky as a Sustainable Development Engine (Catalan) – Dr. Antonia Varela.
- 12:30 p.m. Nüwa: How to Colonise the Solar System without Perishing in the Attempt (Catalan) – Miquel Sureda. - Children’s workshop Perfect Planets with Wild Isards · Plaça de les Fontetes · 11:35 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. For children aged 3 to 10. Free entry.
- Solar Observation & Beer with live music from Isthar Ruiz · Plaça de les Fontetes, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Observation of solar prominences and sunspots, with explanations from the astronomy guides.
- Children’s workshop Fly Me to the Moon with Wild Isards and face painting · Plaça de les Fontetes · 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. For children aged 3 to 10. Free entry.
- Lights off in Arinsal, with live music from Gerard Marsal to accompany stargazers in the darkness throughout the night! · Arinsal car park · 10:30 p.m. Free entry.
- A space to interpret the night sky, the constellations and their mythology at the Arinsal sports complex. An astronomy expert will use a green laser to guide you through the constellations observable from this location and their mythology. Attendees are encouraged sit or lie down on the ground for their own comfort. 1st talk from 11:15 to 11:45 p.m. (Catalan), 2nd talk from 11:45 p.m. to 12.15 a.m. (Spanish) and 3rd talk from 12:15 to 12:45 a.m. (Catalan).
- Nocturnal observation from 11:15 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Arinsal car park. With 6 automated telescopes, with astronomy guides accredited by the Starlight Foundation.
