Discover one of the least-known activities practised by the Areny-Plandolit family
The Areny-Plandolit family, or more specifically Pau-Xavier d’Areny-Plandolit Plandolit and one of his sons, Xavier d’Areny-Plandolit Gassó, achieved widespread renown throughout Spain and internationally and placed Ordino at the centre of the magic world during the first half of the 20th century.
The exhibition is built around Pau-Xavier’s book Las maravillas de la magia moderna (“The Wonders of Modern Magic”), which was published in 1913. The book serves as a guide to this remarkable story, which can be discovered at Era del Raser (the exhibition room adjoined to the Casa d’Areny-Plandolit Museum) and the Postal Museum.
The exhibition showcases a series of objects, some of which belonged to Pau-Xavier and his son while others were owned by their contemporaries. Together, they offer an insight into what shows of this type would have been like at the height of their splendour, when magic was one of the most popular forms of entertainment and filled theatres and town squares. And we promise you that the events you will hear about actually happened!
