15.8 km

Route 9 in the Madriu Valley is a medium-high difficulty route that passes through two parishes: Sant Julià de Lòria, the point where it begins, and Escaldes-Engordany, its end point.

During this route, just a little over 15 km, you’ll cover mountain trails and saddles; go up the Negre de Claror peak, standing at over 2,600 m high; pass the Estany de la Nou lake; and find two unmanned mountain shelters, where you can take a break and recharge your batteries: the Claror shelter and the Perafita shelter, both found in the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley.

Access and other information

Please bear in mind that you’ll need two vehicles to do this route: one to take you to the Rabassa snow field car park, located at Naturland Cota 2000, where the route begins, and another to pick you up once you’ve reached the end.
In addition, it’s worth noting that although the route is at a low level, you’ll always be in the mountains, so it’s recommended that you take precautions, wear appropriate clothing and footwear and also have a minimum level of fitness. This is a full route that is completely signposted.
