With its museums, music shows, theatre and outdoor religious art, Andorran culture awaits you with open arms.
Its museums are, without doubt, one of the best kept secrets in the Principality. Did you know that Andorra has more museums per capita than any other country? There is something for everyone here! Some museums on the Rural Habitat itinerary take ancient tradition as their theme. Others centre on the essential economic activities over the years, such as mining and the tobacco industry. Others delight visitors with luxury items or objects coveted the world over, such as perfumes or motorcycles. And like these there are many more.
Worthy of special mention are the latest two additions to Andorra's cultural panorama: the Carmen Thyssen Museum of Andorra and World Champions by 99. With works by the great masters of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries hanging in its halls the former is the most prestigious art gallery in the Principality. Exhibitions change each year with paintings by artists of the ilk of Gauguin, Matisse or Monet on display. This museum is located on the ground floor of the famous Hotel Valira at Escaldes-Engordany.
The World Champions by 99 is a new attraction from Spain's Jorge Lorenzo, world champion MotoGP racing driver several times over. Situated in Andorra la Vella, visitors can view the countless objects in his private collection in this museum. Examples include his helmets and overalls, including those of great champions such as Alex Crivillé or Mike Doohan. Lorenzo's passion for Formula 1 is also evident in this museum which exhibits objects belonging to legends like Michael Schumacher or Ayrton Senna. This is an interactive space where visitors can also get onto one of the competition simulators or follow the World Champion's races live.
Winter also affords the interesting opportunity of experiencing a unique picture - Andorra' romantic churches covered in snow. This medieval artistic style is one of the distinguishing features that best defines us, and at this time of year its most rural side is revealed, in harmony with nature.
