Spartan Race Encamp 2017

REEBOK SPARTAN RACE ENCAMP ANDORRA 2017

16 from September - 17 from September

The 2nd edition of the Reebok Spartan Race Encamp Andorra has been moved to September, with participants expected to double last year’s and reach 4,000.

The Reebok Spartan Race is back in Andorra. The second edition of this obstacle course will host the 4th European Championship in the speciality. On 16 and 17 September, all eyes will be on the circuit, located in Grau-Roig (Encamp), and the efforts of athletes from around Europe who will make their way to Andorra to take part in the challenge. Another new feature in this edition is the addition of an age group championship, designed to give racers the opportunity to compete against their peers. To fight for the European title, athletes have to qualify in the top of the European ranking in any of the Spartan courses taking place between 25 July and 9 September.

The Reebok Spartan Race Encamp Andorra has various incentives to attract the Spartans.  Moving the event to September has allowed organisers to carry out extensive promotion of the event in 26 countries around Europe and has allowed participants to better prepare for the challenge. Organisers expect around 4,000 people to take part, since it is a Europe-wide championship. But there’s something else that adds to its value: the altitude. The Spartan Andorra race is the highest obstacle course challenge in Europe. The Grau-Roig (Encamp) area, where the circuit is located, is at an altitude of 2,100 m. Activities will also take place throughout the weekend for the audience to enjoy the spirit of the competition.

The Reebok Spartan Race is considered to be the best obstacle course in the world to date. History says that the original idea for this high-resistance sport was thought up by veterans of the British Marines at the beginning of the century. However, the first Spartan Race didn’t take place until 2010 in Vermont (USA), driven by Peak Races, a company founded in 2007 by three athletes addicted to extreme challenges: Joe De Sena, Andy Weinberg and Julian Kopald. A myth was born, which quickly spread throughout the country. In 2012, it made its move to Europe, more specifically Slovakia. From that moment on, it has been unstoppable. Spartan Races are now held in countries such as Australia, Mexico and South Korea. Andorra is one of the most recent additions to the list.

Location and dates: Grau-Roig (Encamp). 16 and 17 September 2017.
