Exhibition on this underground art movement
Set your prejudices to one side and let your imagination run wild is the mantra that inspired the exhibition Mark Ryden. Pop Surrealism and Lowbrow Art, presented by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Andorra at the Government Exhibition Hall. The exhibition aims to showcase pop surrealism and lowbrow art, an underground artistic movement that began in the 1980s in California. This movement is characterized by the mixing of elements of pop culture with extravagant and even disturbing images.
The exhibition features Mark Ryden (USA, 1963), considered "the King of Pop Surrealism", along with the work of six other prominent creators of lowbrow art: Robert Williams (considered the godfather of the movement), Todd Schorr, Marion Peck, Frank Kozik, EMEK and RK Sloane. There will also be an exclusive selection from Salvador Lévaro's contemporary lowbrow art collection.
Divided into 15 areas with more than 160 pieces on display, this exhibition is a celebration of this movement's diversity and innovation.
Free entry and activities. Guided tours for groups on request.
Open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
