Outdoor nativity scene
Discover the story of Christmas in Canillo by following the route of the nativity scene with its life-size figures, now in its 14th edition. It is an outing to enjoy with all the family, incorporating the best-known scenes from the nativity story and featuring more than 200 figures placed in streets throughout the village. The nativity scene will be officially opened in the morning of Friday 2 December at Plaça Carlemany, and can be visited until 30 January 2023.
Travelling concerts and shows
La Brincadeira. Afro-Bahian percussion rhythms fused with a variety of musical styles, dances and choreography. Saturday 3 December at 6:00 pm, through the streets of the village. Departs from Plaça Carlemany.
El Petit Lilo. Who hasn’t wanted a dog at some point in their lives? Lilo, a giant puppy, is full of energy and mischief and has come to Canillo to play with all the children. Friday 9 December at 5:30 pm, through the streets of the village. Departs from Plaça Carlemany.
Swing Girls. Rhythm-packed musical standards from the 1950s to the present. 17 December at 6:00 pm, Palau de Gel ice rink.
Men in Swing. From Christmas songs with a distinctive Dixieland twist through to more modern styles, by way of the Golden Age of Swing. 22 December at 5:00 pm, in front of the Palau de Gel.
Harpo’s Band. The group that Harpo Marx would have dreamed of, accompanied by a uniquely talented MC who will get everyone up and dancing! Wednesday 30 December at 6:00 pm, in front of the Palau de Gel.
Boozan Dukes. A fusion band combining the varied musical styles of the cultures of its members and specialising in 1930s and 1940s French Creole songs from New Orleans, Haiti and Martinique. 4 January 2023 at 5:00 pm, in front of the Palau de Gel.
Children’s theatre
L’avet (“The Fir Tree”): a musical family puppet show with a Christmas theme at the Palau de Gel auditorium. Saturday 10 December at 5:00 pm.
Caseta dels follets (“The Elves’ Cabin”)
From 19 to 23 December, between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm children can deliver their letters to Father Christmas’s elves at the cabin outside the Palau de Gel.
The arrival of Father Christmas
As is traditional on Christmas Eve, everyone is invited to meet Father Christmas when he arrives in Canillo accompanied by his elves. Father Christmas and his entourage will depart from outside the Comú (council building) and make their way to the Palau de Gel, where the children of the Andorra Ice Skating Club will welcome them with a performance on the ice rink. Father Christmas will then come to meet everyone on the rink.
Midnight Mass
On Christmas Eve the traditional Midnight Mass will be held at Sant Cerni Church. Afterwards, worshippers will be offered hot chocolate and mulled wine.
