The bicycle, a tool and a symbol for women
The museum’s opening exhibition reveals how this invention came to become a symbol and also a battlefield in the fight for women’s emancipation and, nowadays, to achieve equality with men.
Through the story of 15 women cyclists from different eras, ‘Women and Bicycles’ showcases their relationship with two wheels, from the late 19th century to the present day. From using the bike as a tool to escape the control of husbands and fathers, to fighting for equality in professional cycling.
