Art and Insanity. Joan Obiols Vié

From 06-02-2020 to 26-04-2020

The Fàbrica Reig Museum introduces you to Joan Obiols Vié, a psychiatrist and teacher from Barcelona, through his eclectic personal art collection.

The first exhibition of the year at the Fàbrica Reig Museum: “Art and Insanity. Joan Obiols Vié” aims to introduce visitors to this relatively unknown Catalan psychiatrist and teacher through his exceptional personal art archive and collection.

The exhibition is made up of two separate sections. In the first section, visitors can see works linked to the psychopathology of expression and his vision of raw art established through the dialogue between a series of images made by psychiatric patients (art therapy) and the images of patients created by Dr Obiols, which reflect cruelly on their suffering.

The second section delves into the activist side of artworks, linked to themes from the period of history in which he lived (the Spanish Civil War, repression, the Franco dictatorship, etc.), through a variety of media: painting, music, theatre, cinema and photography; not forgetting collectionism. His personal collection includes, among others, works by Joan Ponç, Antoni Tàpies, Salvador Dalí and Perejaume.

Location and dates: Fàbrica Reig Museum, until April 26 2020. Free admission.
