“Allées et venues” - Carmen Thyssen Museum

“ALLÉES ET VENUES”. Gauguin and four centuries of roads and paths in art

16 from February - 10 from September

The Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra presents "Allées et venues". Gauguin and four centuries of roads and paths in art, the latest exhibition of treasures from the Carmen Thyssen Collection.

The second exhibition by the Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra “Allées et venues". Gauguin and four centuries of roads and paths in art brings you a panoramic retrospective of the world of art history.

The catalogue included in the exhibition offers a transversal journey across four centuries, from the 16th to the 19th century, through 22 different landscapes with a common defining theme: “pathways”, a physical element that is both a synonym and symbol of journeys and progress.

Beyond these two defining traits, the pieces on show do not share all that many similarities among them. Rather, they come together to create a type of kaleidoscope in which visitors will be able to appreciate a variety of techniques, visions of the world and methodologies.

Visitors will be able to take in paintings from Dutch, Italian, French, German, American and Catalan artists, among others. You will also be able to discover a range of styles from the vedute of Canaletto, to American costumbrismo, as well as touching on modernism, impressionism, post-impressionism and expressionism, with such immortal figures of art history as Gauguin, Pissarro, Canaletto, Birch, Heckel, Münter and Nolde.

Location and dates: "Allées et venues". Gauguin and four centuries of roads and paths in art will be on display at the Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra from 10 September 2018. Av. Carlemany, 37, Escaldes-Engordany.
