Some will take you across the bottom of our valleys and through small towns that are charming all year round.
After an intense day on the saddle, there’s nothing better than a well-deserved rest in one of the bike-friendly accommodations the country has to offer. Hotels, hostels and rural houses with services adapted to the needs of cyclists, from modified breakfast and lunch schedules to spaces to store your bicycles and even perform small repairs, if necessary.
Where to cycle in Andorra
Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to ask the question in reverse: “Where not to cycle in Andorra”. Our country is ideal for pedalling! Road cyclists can easily trace exhilarating routes directly from the door of their accommodation. The Principality’s cycling route map will help you with this task, with a detailed description of more than 20 routes of differing durations and difficulties. One of the hallmarks of Andorra as a cycling region is its spectacular ascents to mountain passes. These climbs have left their mark on several editions of the Vuelta and the Tour, with stage finishes that form part of the history of professional cycling.
The Coma d’Arcalís occupies a prominent place, as the final stage of the Tour in the years 1997, 2009 and 2016. No less important are the Coll de la Gallina, the Rabassa, the Collada de Beixalis, the Cortals d’Encamp and Coll d’Ordino. Well-known by fans, they have featured as part of or been end stages of the Vuelta and the Tour, among other cycling events. Port d’Envalira is also worth a mention as the classic benchmark par excellence for road cycling in Andorra.
The same can be said for MTB and e-bike riders, although you will have to travel to some of the routes beforehand which, on the other hand, will allow you to save some energy for the day’s riding. In the mountain bike route guide you will find information on where they are located and you will also be able to download the tracks of each route.
An added attraction to the already mentioned characteristics is that Andorra offers an exceptional annual calendar of races and challenges in which you can register alone, as a couple or with your usual cycling group. You can also check out the route and follow it on your own whenever you feel like it, as these are some authentic sporting challenges that take in the most outstanding mountain passes the country has to offer, such as La Purito and the Volta als Ports.
