The Christmas Village will fill Andorra la Vella with magic and colour, adding a special touch to this festive occasion.
In this very special year, the Christmas Village once again open its doors in Andorra la Vella to give a sense of wonder to young and old alike. From Plaça Guillemó and Plaça del Poble to the heart of the old town centre, along Avinguda Meritxell, the main shopping avenue in Andorra la Vella, passing through the Plaça de la Rotonda, and finally to the middle of The Shopping Mile.
On 27 November, the switching on of the Christmas lights will launch the start of the activities and performances for all types of audiences. The streets of the capital of the Principality will be filled with light and colour throughout the month of December ensuring that you can make the most of the festivities despite the current circumstances.
You can visit the Christmas market in Plaça del Poble on Thursday and Friday afternoons and all day on weekends and bank holidays. The amount of space for the market has been doubled this year, with a new entrance on the upper part of Av. Meritxell and walking routes have been established to comply with current health measures. In addition to stalls selling traditional high-quality artisanal Christmas products, you’ll also find various options for takeaway food. The market square will be the setting for the 5th Christmas Music Show on Saturdays and Sundays.
There are several areas designed for little ones. At the Magic Post Office located in Plaça Guillemó, they’ll be able to give their letters to the mythical Menairons, who’ll deliver them directly to Father Christmas and the Three Wise Men. Please remember that you’ll need to wear a face mask to enter this year. A virtual post office has also been set up so that anyone who wants to can send their wish lists online.
At the Christmas Park in the square outside the old fire station, you can enjoy seeing the magic Christmas Tree and having a go on the Megabross ride. There will be a Ferris wheel in Plaça de la Rotonda. From 20 to 24 December in the afternoons, children will also have the opportunity beat the Christmas Tió log to release its sweets in Plaça del Poble.
The eight selfie points distributed in various places in Andorra la Vella are one of the hallmarks of the Christmas Village. This year, among other locations, you can take a festive photo in the Village of the Menairons in the vertical garden on Avinguda Meritxell; the large illuminated bone in Plaça Guillemó, near the Magic Post Office; at the nativity scene in a garden on Av. Príncep Benlloch, next to the Town Hall; or by the Christmas soldiers at the new entrance to the market, on Carrer de la Vinyeta.
Young and old alike look forward to seeing the large-format animations which will be displayed on Av. Meritxell every Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m.
From 27 November, the Christmas Village in Andorra la Vella will once turn the capital into a city of wonder. This year, depending on the health situation and the measures in place at any given time, the Christmas Village may stay in place until Epiphany (6 January).
