The “castanyada” is a traditional festival with its roots in the principality, which like in other places is held around All Saints and has its origins in the celebration of an ancient funeral rite. Apart from the chestnuts (“castanya” giving the festival its name), traditional “panellets” (almond paste cakes) and sweet potatoes are eaten, accompanied by muscatel wine.
