“Professions” has been chosen as the theme for this year’s edition of the Sant Julià de Lòria Carnival.  


This year, the Sant Julià de Lòria Carnival be centred around the theme of “professions”. The programme of Events opens with the traditional schools’ parade and closes with the ceremonial taking-down, trial and burning of the Carnestoltes carnival king effigy. In between, there is a week of fun in which young and old alike can take part and enjoy the carnival atmosphere, with activities such as treasure hunts, dances, street barbecues, batucada music and performances for children.

2018 Programme

Friday 9 February
10:00 a.m. Students from schools in Sant Julià de Lòria parade through the streets of the parish, accompanied by the musical performers of Diga'ls-hi Inquiets. The street party culminates at the Plaça de la Germandat. 

Saturday 10 February
5:00 p.m. Children’s treasure hunt. Plaça de la Germandat.
7:00 p.m. Official opening ceremony and the traditional “hanging” of Carnestoltes, accompanied by batucada music from Toca-te’ls. Plaça de la Germandat. 

Sunday 11 February
6:30 p.m. Grand parade with troupes of puppeteers, devils and wizards ; the Wicked Witch and baton-twirlers, along with a contest to choose the best float and troupe. The parade starts at Plaça Francesc Cairat and passes through Av. Verge de Canòlich, Av. Rocafort, Les Arades and Av. Verge de Canòlich, culminating in Plaça de la Germandat.
8:30 p.m. Street barbecue. Plaça de la Germandat.
9:00 p.m.  Batucada music with Toca-te’ls. Plaça de la Germandat.
9:30 p.m. Costume ball with a performance by Doble Cara.

Monday 12 February
5:00 p.m. Children’s show, Quina ballaruca, by the troupe La Cremallera. Plaça de la Germandat. (In the event of bad weather, the show will take place in the vestibule of the Culture and Conference Centre.)
7:00 p.m. Ceremonial taking-down, trial and burning of the Carnestoltes carnival king effigy. Plaça de la Germandat.
