The Carnival of Canillo takes place over the weekend before Carnival Monday on 27 February.
The Camí del Gall, between Soldeu and Canillo, is one of best loved routes in Andorra among mountain bikers. Find out more here
The Camí del Gall (Route of the Cockerel, translated into English) offers the essence of MTB routes in Andorra: beautiful landscapes, a demanding course and services for cyclists. The route linking Canillo and Soldeu is best ridden in the summer. On this page we explain the route highlights and its main attractions and services. You'll also find links to download detailed information on this and other routes for MTB cyclists.
The Camí del Gall is a linear route linking Soldeu to Canillo, both towns in the parish of Canillo. This means you can do it in either direction, starting in either town. It covers a distance of 6.8 km (the return journey is along the same route, thus doubling the distance). It is classified as difficult, like numerous MTB routes in Andorra, mainly because of the steep climbs and descents along the way. The starting and finishing altitudes are 1,805 m (Soldeu) and 1,530 m (Canillo) above sea level, although the climb is 520 m from the lowest to the highest points. If you choose Soldeu as your starting point, the route begins next to the horse-riding club. The exact GPS coordinates are: 42° 34' 34",1° 39' 46". If you start at Canillo, the starting point is the gondola lift (coordinates 42° 33' 56",1° 36' 6").
Attractions and services on this MTB route
The Camí del Gall crosses a sector of the Grandvalira ski resort, which is turned into a spectacular Bike Park in summer, specialising in freeride and downhill. Among the sights on the route are an old restored iron bridge and numerous panoramic views, some of them with information panels, as the route can also be done on foot.
As for services, both Soldeu and Canillo have sports shops, restaurants and numerous other stores. You can also use their hotels and hostels. Some of these are classified as cyclist accommodation and provide facilities for mountain bikers in Andorra, such as special menus and times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and areas for washing bikes, among others services.
Download Alpify, the safety application that in the event of emergency allows users to send their exact location to the rescue teams.
