XIAO XIA IN ANDORRA

XIAO XIA IN ANDORRA

Von 06/02/2018 bis 06/05/2018

ARTALROC, Escaldes-Engordany ( Escaldes-Engordany )

A broad selection of works by Chinese artist Xiao Xia is on show until 6 May at ARTALROC, the Andorran Government’s exhibition venue.

Andorra welcomes its first-ever exhibition of works by Xiao Xia, a Chinese artist who was born in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province. The retrospective brings together some 27 paintings that were produced between 1988 and 2010 using a range of different techniques and styles and on different media. The exhibition has been organised in partnership with the Brussels-based art gallery China Today and is curated by Henry Périer, who holds a doctorate in art history.

Over the course of his long career, Xiao Xia has absorbed many influences and is notable for his sparing use of artistic resources. The result of this economical approach is a collection of sober, subtle works that conceal images of a genuinely enigmatic nature. As a whole, Xiao Xia’s body of work comprises an extremely varied artistic portfolio that straddles both East and West.

The exhibition forms part of Andorra’s Chinese New Year celebrations, which incorporate a series of free related activities such as workshops and concerts.

Location: ARTALROC. Av. Carlemany, 8, Escaldes-Engordany. Free entry.

Dates: 6 February to 6 May 2018.
