ANDORRA LAND ART 2017

ANDORRA LAND ART 2017

Von 28/04/2017 bis 28/07/2017

Principat d’Andorra, ( CAN, ENC, ORD, MAS, ALV, SJL, ESC )

Andorra Land Art, disseminates and propels the tenets of the movement that arose towards the end of the 60s of the last century in North America, which closely ties artistic creation with the landscape into which it is introduced.

This second biennial edition presents around fifty works by artists from eleven different countries, who pay homage to Andorra's cultural and natural heritage. The pieces have been divided into four large exhibition sections: the Path of Human Rights, the Wool Factory, "Els Miradors" (the viewpoints) and the Ras Area. Without doubt, Andorra is an ideal framework for developing this symbiosis between contemporary art works and landscape.

The Path of Human Rights, pays homage to the refugees, who from both sides of our borders took the "Andorran way" which passes through the Pyrenees, in search of their freedom. This interparochial route connects two of the main entry points to our Principality: the southern point of Coll de Jou (Sant Julia de Lòria) and Port de Siguer (Ordino) in the north. It is along this route where the majority of art works are placed for this international biennial edition of Andorra Land Art. This route is currently being promoted as "Andorra's healthy path of human rights" by the Government Ministry for Health and City Councils, with the support of the WHO, which has vouched for the cross-disciplinary nature and simplicity of this initiative, which combines the promotion of healthy physical exercise, and dissemination of Andorra's heritage and respect for human rights.

The Wool Factory, a historic building in the upper area of Escaldes-Engordany, closed and abandoned for many years now, is one of the most significant remains of Andorra's textile industry after more than a century. At almost 2,000 square meters, the second central point of Andorra Land Art 2017 will carry out projections and video-art fixtures. Also, part of the Sorigué Foundation's contemporary art collection will be displayed, whilst performing the function of an information centre. Undoubtedly, this is an unsurpassable opportunity to rediscover these facilities.

The third focal point is named “Els Miradors” (the viewpoints) and can be found in Coll d’Ordino in Canillo. In this area, where the Roc del Quer viewpoint has recently been opened beside Jorge Dubon's “Estructures auto generadores” (self-generating structures), interventions will be made by diverse artists from Andorra Land Art, which will show us how the spaces provided by the natural watch towers can be used.

Last but not least, in the Ras Area, located around the Engolasters lake, in Escaldes-Engordany, a space will be prepared for free creation and innovation during the Biennial Land Art, which will be visited by students from different schools from across the country.

Dates: from 28 April to 28 August 2017, in the four exhibition areas throughout the Andorran principality. All Andorra Land Art activities will be free and open to all members of the public.

Organisation: Assembly of Papaia Projectes Artístics, and sponsored by Comuns del Principat and Andorra Turisme.
